This website brings together information about the various bird survey and monitoring programs established in the UK, many of which are relevant to garden birds.
The
British Trust for Ornithology and the
Royal Society for the Protection of Birds are together responsible for a large number of bird survey and monitoring programs in the UK. In order to bring information about the various surveys together and make sense of it all, the two organisations have created this website.
The website does a good job of making sense of what, to the uninitiated, can often seem a confusing array of bird population studies. Each survey is described in enough detail to enable the reader to understand its aims and objectives and how it fits into the wider picture. The Joint Nature Conservation Committee's 'Integrated Population Monitoring Program' (to which many of the surveys contirubte) is described. Opportunities to become involved in each of the surveys, where they exist, are indicated.
If you want to find out more about a particular survey, or are looking for opportunities to get involved, then this website is an ideal place to start.
