A southern hawker dragonfly (Aeshna cyanea), normally found in the south of England, was discovered by a Carlisle householder in her utility room.

 Details
Normally a very rare occurrence as far north as Carlisle, the southern hawker is one of 13 insect species found in Cumbria this summer who's appearance has been linked directly with the warm summer weather. As far as I'm concerned, this is more supporting evidence for my own unusual dragonfly sighting on 31st August!
