BBC Gardener's World has joined forces with Plantlife to promote the use of wild plants in the garden.
Up to 1 in 5 of British wild plants are thought to be in danger of extinction. To highlight the threats facing wild plants, BBC Gardeners' World Live has joined forces with conservation charity
Plantlife to launch the
Grow Wild campaign, which asks you to dedicate 10% of your garden to native plants.
Grow Wild offers expert advice on position, planting and propagation as well as the best sources of plants and seeds. Plantlife expert, Dr Trevor Dines has selected his top six plants to include in your garden this spring and given advice on where, when and how to plant them to produce a beautiful garden that highlights the splendour of native flowers. His top six are:
- Primrose (Primula vulgaris)
- Marsh Marigold (Caltha palustris)
- Sweet Violet (Viola odorata)
- Pasque Flower (Anemone patens)
- Yellow Flag (Iris pseudacorus)
- Columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris)
