References: British Bird Sounds on CD

Sound recordings of 175 different British Birds, covering all the most frequently heard bird vocalisations, including those you are most likely to come across in your garden.

This collection of bird songs and calls was compiled from the national sound archives. Represented are all the most common bird calls and songs as well as a substantial number of those less frequently heard. All the 'tracks' are introduced by name - a useful feature if you are listening to a number of them together. For me though, recordings of birds on CD come into their own when you have heard a call or song 'in the field' and then want to check out your hunches. For example you believe you've heard an owl but are not sure which one: use the CD to quickly compare the sounds made by the different owl species. Used in this way they become a real aid to learning bird calls and songs.
