Today I had my first sighting of a painted lady (Cynthia cardui) butterfly this year, and it happened to be in my garden.

 More info...
According to reports earlier this year (Watch out for the painted ladies) we are likely to have a bumper year for these migrant butterflies. I hope that this will be the first of many visitors to my garden. My Buddleja davidii are just coming into flower, so they will get a good welcome! The buddleja today were also attracting the first honey bees (Apis mellifera) I have seen in the garden this year, as well as the usual white-tailed bumble bees (Bombus lucorum) and many different types of hoverfly.
