 Details
On June 11th we reported that larger than usual numbers of this migratory butterfly were moving through Malta and Spain. I saw the first individual in my garden on 20th July, but none since then (although I was away for 2 weeks). However, now it seems that they have begun to reach our shores in larger numbers, with some very big concentrations being reported from Ipswich. One observer reported seeing some 400 butterflies. Gardens figure highly on this species list favoured habitats so, wherever you are, keep an eye out for this truly remarkable and beautiful garden insect.
