This is the mammal societies' designated 'mammal week' and they are encouraging us to record the mammals we see in our gardens.
The Mammal Society has an annual 'mammal week' every year in the first week of July, during which they organise events up and down the country to raise awareness of mammals.
As well as urging us to attend an event, the society is also encouraging us to record the mammals we see in our gardens. This recording is not limited to mammal week; but it is being promoted particularly strongly during this week. If you would like to record the mammals you see in your garden, the society would like you to know:
- what animal you saw;
- where you saw it;
- when you saw it;
- who you are;
To do it properly, you can download a recording form from the recording site shown below and send the records to your local county mammal recorder. Your records will then be collated with thousands of others as part of the societies' ongoing efforts to monitor the abundance and distribution of mammals across the UK.
