In an effort to encourage more people to feed their garden birds, the RSPB has nominated October 30th 2004 as Feed the Birds Day.
It is now widely recognised that birds can benefit from year-round feeding. In spring and early summer, adult birds benefit by maintaining high energy levels during the breeding period. In late summer and early autumn, young birds benefit from putting on weight in preparation for winter. And, of course, in winter all birds benefit from supplementary feeding: it increases their chances of surviving harsh weather.
The
RSPB wants to encourage more people to feed their garden birds and the
Feed the Birds Day is designed to introduce people to the delights of doing so.
