Bird homes set to multiply
Appeared on Space For Nature on 31st January 2004
Declines in many of our once common garden birds, like the house sparrow and starling, may be due in part to the loss of their traditional nesting places. A new book from the BTO shows how we can help to put this right.

The new book builds on previous work on the same subject to have come from the BTO. It shows how nesting boxes can be easily made from cheap or recycled wood to address the deficit of nesting spaces around modern houses and gardens. Moreover it shows how to maximise the chances of a nestbox being used, for example by locating it correctly. The book has been published in time for people to use it as a guide to building nestboxes for the forthcoming breeding season. You will find a full review of The BTO Nestbox Guide by clicking here.
