This collection of bird songs and calls was compiled from the national sound archives. Represented are all the most common bird calls and songs as well as a substantial number of those less frequently heard. All the 'tracks' are introduced by name - a useful feature if you are listening to a number of them together. For me though, recordings of birds on CD come into their own when you have heard a call or song 'in the field' and then want to check out your hunches. For example you believe you've heard an owl but are not sure which one: use the CD to quickly compare the sounds made by the different owl species. Used in this way they become a real aid to learning bird calls and songs. The CD can be obtained directly from the British Library sound archive ( http://www.bl.uk/collections/sound-archive/nsa.html).
